Schedule your own Red Cross or First Aid Badge class - at the time and place most convenient for you!
Classes can be held at your troop meeting place or other location.

Located in San Mateo, CA, we travel from San Francisco to San Jose, from Coastside to southwestern Alameda County.
Is your troop outside of the our service area? See below.
Does your Brownie, Junior, or Older Girl troop want a First Aid badge class? Offer a Red Cross CPR/First Aid certification class (required for troop First Aiders), before or after the meeting. Sharing the travel cost makes the cost per girl even more affordable. You can even have adults pay more for their certification, covering the troop's costs, and have your troop First Aid badge class for free.
Have your Older Girls take a Red Cross CPR/First Aid certification class along with troop adults!
Share the costs with another troop, or have a Service Unit First Aid Badge day!
We travel to you...or you can travel to us
Is your troop outside of our service area?
A fun alternative is to have a weekend trip to a Girl Scout property, such as Camp Ida Smith, near the SF Zoo, and have a Red Cross CPR, First Aid or Babysitter Training certification class, or a First Aid badge training class, be part of your trip.

The Cadette First Aid Badge can be earned by taking the Red Cross First Aid certification class using the Blended Learning option, and adding class time for the Girl Scout requirements (optional for Badge; not required for Red Cross certification).
The Red Cross curriculum is at a higher learning level than previously.
Therefore, Cadettes should at least be in the second half of 6th grade to take the Red Cross course.
Time Required for Red Cross First Aid certification:
Online content before the class: approximately 2.5 hours
In-person skills session for First Aid certification: 30 minutes
Additional Time Required for Cadette First Aid badge completion:
The extra badge content can be added to the 30 minute First Aid in-class skills session. It takes 30 minutes.
Cost for Red Cross First Aid certification: $70 to $100 per person, depending on the number of girls in the class.
Cost for the additional time for Cadette First Aid badge completion: $50/class (NOT per person).
CPR certification option recommended:
6th grade Cadettes in the second half of the school year are old enough to get Red Cross certification in CPR as well as First Aid.

CPR certification without First Aid badge: $70 to $100 per person, depending on the number of girls. Add Pediatric CPR option for $8/person.

*Wilderness First Aid course no longer offered. It is typically a 16 hour course.
* - There is a travel charge for all classes for round trip travel time from San Mateo. The total amount will depend on the type of class, the number of participants in the class, and the drive time estimate. In the Bay Area, drive time varies widely depending on time of day. Contact us for an estimate of your travel cost.
** - A minimum charge applies for Brownie or Junior troop meetings that are held further than a 30 minute round-trip drive time from San Mateo. You must book the badge class with a second class, such as another troop class or a CPR/First Aid class for troop adults, to be held immediately before or after the badge class. Since troops require a certified First Aider, most troops offer a CPR/First Aid or CPR class for the leaders and troop parents. Some choose to charge the adults more so that the cost of the badge class is paid for by the adults. Some troops coordinate with other troops to have a class on the same date. If you are unable to book a second class, you have the option of paying a surcharge of $60 instead.

Practice your babysitting skills (this requirement is not met in the class)
The course provides youth who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants. This training will help participants to develop leadership skills; learn how to develop a babysitting business, keep themselves and others safe and help children behave; and learn about basic child care.
The recommended age for this course is 11-15 years old. It’s a great class for Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts.
You don't need to be a Girl Scout to take the class; it is for everyone. It's a great class for boys as well; many parents appreciate having males babysit their sons.
Schedule your own class for a group of 6-10 participants. If you have more than 10, we can schedule another class. If you have fewer than 6, you can open it up to friends, or other troops.
Participants receive a Red Cross Babysitter Training completion certificate.
Cost includes the Babysitter's Handbook, Emergency Reference Guide, and other tools needed to run a babysitting business.
The basic class does not include CPR or First Aid certification. Basic First Aid and choking rescue content is covered.
Participants should be in at least the
second half of 6th grade to receive the optional CPR and First Aid certification.
The additional certification can be added at a discounted price.
If you have fewer than 10 students taking the Babysitting/CPR/First Aid class, other youth or adults are welcome to take the CPR/First Aid certification segment alone for $93.
(If you have 6 students taking Babysitting with CPR/First Aid for example, up to 4 others may take the CPR/First Aid certification only.)
Any day that works for you. It is recommended to take the class in one day. Though not ideal, class can be split into two sessions.
Weekends, school holidays, and teacher work days are great days to schedule the class. Or make the class part of a sleepover!
We teach the class at your location.
Room requirements: You need a large open room, such as a very large room in a house, or a classroom. One seat per student (or they can sit on the floor), a chair for the instructor, and space for a projection screen are needed.
By adding one hour to the Babysitter Training Class, Cadettes will complete all of the requirements to earn the legacy Cadette First Aid Badge and all but one of the requirements to earn the legacy Cadette Babysitting Badge.
If you want to schedule a weekend class, start planning as soon as you can. Available weekend dates fill up quickly.
The basic course does not include CPR/First Aid certification.
Seven hour course, includes breaks.
Though not ideal, class can be split into two sessions for an additional cost.

I'm proud to be a Lifetime Girl Scout.
I was a Girl Scout volunteer, leader, and volunteer camp nurse for many years. I raised my daughters as Girl Scouts. I have instructed hundreds of Girl Scouts and leaders in CPR and First Aid certification. and in completing their Girl Scout First Aid badge requirements
Why Garfield? Camp names are a Girl Scout tradition. As a volunteer camp nurse, I was known as Garfield for years. When I was a Medic in the Army, my nickname was Garfield.
Since I teach so many Girl Scouts, stories of youth rescuers are my favorites.
